In 2015 the first primary schools mountain bike development series in Gauteng was hatched, under the title sponsorship of Solomons Cycles and presented by South Africa Schools Cycling (SACS). President of SASC, Deon Steyn, wanted to enable children aged between 7-14 to be introduced to mountain biking without the pressure associated with racing. Solomons Cycles was eager to be part of this vision and so the Solomons Primary Schools Development Series was created to impart valuable MTB skills to children in a fun and relaxed manner. This year’s series consisted of three events held at FH Odendaal High School and Wonderboom High School and surpassed the expectations of all involved.
Cycle Shack worked together with i ride 2 to present the skills classes. A fun obstacle course was set up by i ride 2, to teach skills such as how to ride over small logs, take sharp turns and navigate jumps and berms. Cycle Shack skills instructors were present to give the children one-on-one guidance through each obstacle until they were able to complete them with ease.
